SUPPORTING LOS ANGELES WILDFIRE RELIEF
The recent Los Angeles wildfires have had a devastating impact, with over 40,000 acres burned, thousands of homes destroyed, and numerous lives tragically lost. Santa Barbara organizations including Direct Relief and the Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance have stepped up to provide critical aid to affected areas. Our community knows the power of collective action—now, here’s what you can do to help.
DONATE
Making a financial donation is one of the most effective ways to support fire relief. Consider contributing to these trusted organizations actively assisting those affected:
DIRECT RELIEF
A Santa Barbara-based nonprofit delivering medical supplies, respiratory masks, and emergency resources to those affected.
AMERICAN RED CROSS
Providing shelter, food, and essential supplies for evacuees while supporting firefighters and first responders.
CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Wildfire Recovery Fund supporting long-term recovery efforts, housing assistance, and mental health services for fire victims.
CALIFORNIA FIRE FOUNDATION
Provides critical support to wildfire victims, assists firefighters on the front lines, and offers aid to the families of fallen firefighters.
WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN
Delivering meals to affected families and first responders impacted by the fires.
SALVATION ARMY
Providing food, shelter, and essential supplies to wildfire survivors as well as firefighters and police officers.
VOLUNTEER
There are many opportunities to volunteer your time and energy. Consider these ways to get involved:
Assist at Evacuation Shelters
Volunteer to organize donations, serve meals, or provide emotional support to evacuees.
Support Animal Rescue Efforts
Many pets have been displaced by the fires. Santa Barbara Humane has already taken in 13 dogs from shelters in Los Angeles, with plans to transfer more animals, including about 30 cats. Their staff has also traveled to Los Angeles to assist overwhelmed shelter teams, providing care and medical services to displaced animals. Volunteers can foster, transport, or care for these animals at Santa Barbara Humane facilities or help with animal transfers.
Distribute Supplies
Organizations like Direct Relief have provided essential items, including N95 respirators, prescription medicines, vaccines, and protective gear, to evacuation centers and health facilities in Los Angeles. Volunteers can assist by sorting, packing, and delivering these supplies. The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County has also collaborated with regional food banks, providing 10 pallets of water to affected areas. Helping with similar distribution efforts can make a significant difference.
